About the Institute
Independent research. Public purpose. We connect evidence with the capacity of people and organisations to put it into practice.
Who we are
Mens Apta Institute (MAI), Association Mens Apta Institute, is an independent, non-profit, non-governmental association based in Zagreb, Croatia. We bring together research, evaluation, policy advice and professional development to support public institutions, helping professions and civil society. Our work connects public policy and good governance with mental health, psychosocial wellbeing and organisational resilience.

Our vision
Public institutions and communities that make informed, inclusive decisions, with professionals who have the knowledge, support and working conditions to contribute sustainably. We see strong institutions and human wellbeing as mutually reinforcing.
Our mission
To strengthen public institutions, helping professions and civil society through independent research, evaluation, policy advice and capacity-building. Our particular commitment is to mental health, psychosocial wellbeing and organisational resilience.
Our values
Independence, methodological care, respect for people and transparency guide our work. We value interdisciplinary collaboration, thoughtful dialogue and evidence that is accessible and useful to the people making decisions.
Our identity and accountability
MAI is a private, non-profit association. The word Institute in our name describes our research, educational and advisory purpose; we are not a public scientific institution, a university unit or a state body. We welcome enquiries about our organisation, governance and potential collaboration at info@mensapta.org.
Why evidence and human capacity belong together
Sound policy depends on more than evidence alone. It also depends on the people, relationships and organisational conditions that turn knowledge into practice. We bring these perspectives together through research and policy advice, alongside training, coaching and mentorship that offer professional development and reflective space.
Connect with the Institute
We welcome dialogue with researchers, public institutions, civil-society organisations and professionals who share an interest in evidence-informed policy and psychosocial wellbeing. Contact us to explore a question or a potential collaboration.
